Fuminobu Nishida

Fuminobu Nishida西田文信 Fuminobu Nishida was brought up in Gumma in Japan. His first degree was in Chinese literature at Keio University, Japan’s oldest university. After graduating, he spent two years studying linguistics at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. After obtaining an M.A. in linguistics there, he worked in Japan for a couple of years. Having studied Tibetan and Burmese in Japan and Hawai’i, he went to Hong Kong for three and half years. At the City University of Hong Kong, he completed course work in linguistics, particularly Tibeto-Burman, and he participated in several conferences. His research continues to be focused on minority languages, especially in China, and he has also begun to study Austroasiatic languages. In addition, he has mastered Cantonese, a language which he uses on an almost daily basis. He has a continuing interest in describing hitherto undocumented languages in China and Southeast Asia as well as in comparative linguistics. When not at work, he enjoys swimming, hiking, reading and visits to the mountains of Asian countries. Fuminobu Nishida is currently working on Choyo, Mangde and Nàmùyì.
